British based, Japanese influenced and American styled brand Superdry isn’t on your average streetwear game. Instead they usually rethink the streetwear brands you swear by taking traditional pieces, flipping them on their head, and exaggerating their characteristics, so it was always going to be interesting to see what they brought to the world of activewear.

Somehow, Superdry has managed to translate that signature aesthetic to a their new Superdry Sport range and we were lucky enough to take a huge selection from the range for a test drive.
We really thrashed these pieces in some heavy lifting, endurance cardio, and even some adventure racing. What really makes the range unique isn't the look, it's the feel, fit and make of the pieces.

The tops are next level breathable in a heavy workout despite being extremely fitting. The tight fit works though, and you never feel restricted in your movement because of the light weight of the fabric. It's clear from the function and movement of the tops, that athletes have had input into the design of the range. Nothing clings, nothing restricts, but there are no loose ends and nothing unnecessary in the way.

Warning: The branding on the workout shirts isn't subtle, with huge branding down the back and sides, but even that placement means that it somehow is out of sight. It never feels that you are a walking Superdry billboard.

Bottoms count an almost wetsuit-feeling loose fitting tracksuit short, which you wouldn't take anywhere near a serious workout for fear of sweating yourself into a coma, but they make a great leisure wear short. There is the more performance based short, that is more of a traditional material, with a short cut great for lunging and squatting.

Outerwear is where the Sport range has really nailed it, and considering the background of the brand, it makes total sense. Superdry have been leading the mid range jacket market for years and the Sport range is no different. Details in the running jacket go deep, from the fit, the fibre and strategically placed zippers. As with the shorts range, there's a more leisure orientated jumper that doesn't really serve a functional purpose, but works for pre/post gym and can even be worn out at night..... so I've been told.

The theme of the performance pieces, from top to bottom, is tight, so if that's not what you're into, still give them a try, but go up a size. You'll still get a fully functional piece that fits well and works well with movement.

Check out Superdry's Aussie Insta for local launches and expansions on the range as they drop. Heading to summer, there's bound to be some great use for the lightweight and breathable materials.
